St Joseph’s were thrilled on Friday to be hosting Dr Veronique Altglas from the School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work at Queen’s University Belfast. Dr Altglas was invited to St Joseph’s by our Sociology teacher Miss McCartan, to give a seminar to current AS and A-Level students about what studying sociology entails and where a degree in the social sciences can take you. It was also a pleasure to have in attendance, A-Level students and their teachers from St Mary’s High School, Newry and St Mark’s High School, Warrenpoint.

St Joseph’s were also delighted to welcome back former pupil Stephanie Kirwan who is currently completing her degree in Sociology under the supervision of Dr Altglas. All in attendance found the talk extremely engaging and informative. With many former students from St Joseph’s now starting their first weeks at University, it was a great opportunity for our A-Level students to get a taste of what their future may hold.
