Staff and parents filled the school assembly hall on Thursday 9th November to congratulate the class of 2017 on their GCSE results.
St Joseph’s was delighted to have as Guest of Honour, Dr Charlene McShane PHD, BA Sc (Hons), a Past Pupil and Cancer Epidemiologist at Queens University Belfast. After leaving St Joseph’s Charlene attended UCD where she graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Biomedical Health and Life Sciences in 2011. Charlene then completed a PHD in Cancer Epidemiology graduating from QUB in 2015. She is currently working as a Research Fellow in QUB in Cancer Epidemiology. Charlene who was a former GCSE and A Level Student of the Year and Head Girl, spoke very fondly of her time in St Josephs. She recalled how Mrs Millar first ignited her love for Science in Key Stage 3 and how proud she is to be a past pupil of our wonderful school. She also encouraged the pupils to work hard and to always find alternative ways of finding their dream job rather than giving up.
Those who excelled in individual subjects were acknowledged. A range of other achievements were also celebrated such as sporting prowess, musical ability and attendance. Awards were given for endeavour and also to pupils who contributed in a positive way to school life. Each pupil was commended and presented with their Record of Achievement.
